Now john are we really going to argue about the DPs in my comments section? Anyway they’ve been doing the Afro-pop influenced stuff way before Vampire Weekend formed. And I consider Dave Longstreth a serious songwriter/composer - if you look through his back catalog you’ll find it’s quite heavy. He’s miles above other groups who’d get lumped in with him (Grizzly Bear, TV on the Radio, Animal Collective etc…)
Uh, not Animal Collective. But I agree those other bands suck within miles of DP, vertically or laterally. Frankly I think Vampire Weekend does a decent job of co-opting African money whereas in my briefly informed (but insightful) opinion, DP is about as ingenuous as Timberlake using the n-word. Where the fuck is page 23?
