UPDATE 12.12.12 : I started painting a new page. Sorry for the delay. I got seriously backed up at my cartoon job. Also I played Minecraft for a few days straight. Listen you guys. Minecraft is amazing. I’m sorry. I needed a break. I am chilling out on Minecraft as of tomorrow. I just hope nobody finds my god damn fortress and steals my shit. For real though. I was reaching a breaking point with work. I was hyperventilating in my bed at night. I know that sounds crazy. That’s because I’m a sensitive guy who handles stress not so good. New episode will be up by Monday.
No new episode this week. Sorry folks I just moved into a new apartment and my work life is taking me to the limit.

I think this is my favorite page so far. The juxtaposition of mystical happenings of epic significance and extreme casual banter is A+. Can you ballpark the release date for book 2?
… also, as a side note, I’ve noticed that a lot of your jpegs are natively 630 pixels wide, but the website automatically scales them down to 620, which makes certain details look really blurry. If you upload your jpegs at 620 instead of 630 your comics will look significantly clearer and sharper
Ohhh for some reason I thought the website dimensions were 630 this whole time. I will start posting at 620.
Volume 2 will end at Episode 179. That means there are 25 weeks to go. So about 6 months from now I’ll finish drawing it. Give a month for scanning and editing, another month for printing and shipping and I’d say 8 or 9 months from now.
I went looking back through the old episodes looking for the last time we’ve seen Metatron, and I just noticed something. Between ep 122 and 127, is it Seth or Abel that’s in a coma?
Oh yeah that was a mistake I made a while ago and still haven’t gotten around to fixing. It’s Abel who is in the coma. I’ll fix that tomorrow.

There’s no 180 degree rule in comics. That’s just film, and it’s probably half bullshit anyway.
It’s, uhm, just that I’m having a hard time seeing the arm/hand in panel 3 and panel 4 as the same right hand as in panels one and two, and as in episode 153.
Actually, sort of hate to bring it up….
I actually try my best to follow the 180 degree rule in my comics, due to my film school training. I looked over ep 153 and 154 and it works, so I’m not sure what the problem is, unless you think I drew the hand funky. Which is sort of true, but what can I do. Hands. They’re tough. But the screen direction works and it’s def his right hand the whole time.
This is an amazing page, dude! This guy is really cool, his laid back godly attitude makes me think he may be the real thing!
A U M reminds me of the AUM juice that is present in Robert Anton Wilson and Robert Shea’s Illuminati trilogy. A concoction of different drugs that dramatically boosts the intelligence of a human and they give it out as tomato juice on main street!

Not sure if you’re aware, but this guy (the angel Metatron) already appeared briefly and spoke with Michael a bit earlier. And yeah, I love the general slacker attitude of every divine character in Forming.
Oh, and my anti-spam is Pantagruel, who I happen to know is the son of Gargantua, a French giant. That seems oddly unrelated to any kind of music.

The hand looks good Jesse. The angle of the arm looks weird in panel 3, though. IMO the forearm should be straight down from the hand, it looks like a right hand on a left arm. But that’s the kind of thing you’d see on a show called Extreme Nitpicking(tm) on TLC.

How do you feel to contemplate Rule 34 of Forming?
I’m Really enjoying Forming. The hand in 3+4 is drawn incorrectly in the anatomical sense but this does not subtract from the general artistry of the work or from the story. Gentle Giant got Pantagruel from Rabelais’ oeuvre. So Jesse - GG, Magma, Supertramp and my word is Banco - you’re obviously super into Prog. Do you know the Camel album ‘Music Inspired by The Snow Goose’? That’s one of my favorites of the genre. Keep up the good work.
Yes the composition of the body in the frame is a bit wonky and confusing. I should have pulled out a bit more. Anyway yeah I have that Snow Goose record. It’s real good. Maybe I’ll listen to it right now. My fav Camel album is probably Moonmadness though.

Can’t believe I’m jumping on the hand comments after never uttering a peep on anything before, because Forming is just unbelievable-mind slapping-awesomeness. But my nitpickytron mind says it’s a problem with the back of the hand being parallel to the picture plane, with the face in profile, and the hand out front enough so Noah can scope the ring. Anatomically tough. OK, now I feel like a turd. Jesse, you’re a genius.

Yikes dude. It’s cool to take breaks sometimes. You’re an American. “Forming” is clearly a labor of love (or compulsion anyway), it’s best to keep it that way. Don’t pervert yourself by indenturing yourself in abject self-servitude. Self. Anyway, it sounded like you needed some sensitive guy cheering up, so I manipulated these little lights across space and time, and imbued them with magic and love and stuff. Hope it worked. Thanks for being one of the most creatively outspoken and honest people whose work I have ever enjoyed.

I too have suffered from temporary Minecraft addiction. I recommend that you try the Technic Pack or Tekkit Pack (both are huge mod packs, ready to go, no finicky installations necessary) and you’ll have so much to do you won’t know where to begin.
Everything alabaster moses said? I wanted to say that too. So all that x2. You shouldn’t feel beholden to us Internet losers anyway, your work/play life is more important by a long shot. If anything, I’d rather play some Minecraft with you than have you hyperventilating over some delayed Forming pages.
Your work is fantastic, you made some of my favorite Adventure Time episodes, and your comic is as creative as Rice Boy, Gunnerkrigg Court, and MSPA. Take a break and relax some time, you’ve brought us enough joy as it is!

Yeah please don’t ever compromise your work because you feel obligated to put out material. Put it out when you are ready, and in a fashion that doesn’t throw your life out of balance.
I said this before, but when Forming is complete and in print nobody will remember or care about the week (or longer) gaps in production time.

i don’t think you need to repaint the hand panel, but if you decide to, i think the problem is actually with the elbow, not the hand. looking at the back of your hand, elbow points out.

Try doodling in front of a good movie! I find that always helps me get back into the flow of things and its super relaxing.
Noah’s arm looked good to me. Looked back at the panel a few times, then tried it myself: treading neck deep in ice-cold water. Pretty spot on. Maybe my arm is funny?
