I’m so excited I’m going to blow up.
I LOVE this show!
I just started the episode, and I just want to say that Cube is one of my favorite movies of all time. Very psyched about this episode.
Did Lemongrab seriously cry out “MOMMY!” in reference to Princess Bubblegum when the monster was squeezing out his life-juices? Or did I mishear that line?
Man Jesse, that was funny, and meta, and used every character strongly, and had beautiful continuity references. You and Ako kicked some fat buns.
@Holly - yeah he did scream “Mommy”. I thought it would be funny for him to scream “mommy” while ejaculating juice out of his head. Ah. Thanks y’all.
@Bjorm - Yeah I saw two of the Cube movies when I used to work at a video store. It definitely was at least in part an inspiration for the episode.
Appreciated the doodles on the wall in the Magi’s room. Peeps throwin their socks into the fire to sprout wings. Who wouldn’t want magic socks
Mom and I laughed our buts off. This was a great episode.
This episode was fantastically paced, as was your “Reign of Gunters” episode. You and Ako seem to fit more into your episodes than most people while maintaining a perfect balance.
It seems Ice King’s sanity is decreasing even further then?
Another great ep! Is the title a reference to the Fushigi no Dungeon series?
Just found this: http://ask-the-two-earls.tumblr.com/post/41177884129/manp3rkins-so-when-i-was-making-that
Was this intentional? Or are people (amusingly) looking into the facial expressions too much?
I loved this episode. I was initially concerned that you wouldn’t get five so similar characters to mesh well, but it worked beautifully.
Loved the episode, particularly Lemongrab deciding that Ice King was functionless.
The remorseful Lemongrab face is something that was added in by the Korean animators. It wasn’t intentional, but it is funny.
Is the rat dead, or was it just KO’d?
Just KO’d
I loved this episode and I love this show. I watch it almost everyday and I am getting to understand the pasts of the characters. Thank you so much for this mythic story.
The episode reminded me a lot of “Labyrinth,” but my friend said that it reminded them of “The Cube,” a movie I have yet to check out.
Anywhoo, my friend noticed a strange parallel with Mystery Dungeon and The Cube. In The Cube, one of the prisoners is autistic and has the savant ability of mathematical genius, and this is a benefit to everyone. Lemongrab has been diagnosed by a lot of fans as being somewhere on the autism spectrum, and in this episode it was revealed that he has photographic memory which is obviously useful. (I had a friend very similar to that in high school, he was an aspie and infallible recall.)
Is this a coincidence, or are my friend and I massive dinguses for making this connection?
I feel kind of bad for Ice King- I am getting a real soft spot for him.
I’ve seen two of the Cube movies but I have basically zero recollection of anything that happened in them, except seeing a guy get sprayed with acid. I do like the premise of those movies, so yeah it was at least instrumental in spirit to Mystery Dungeon. I saw a documentary of a guy with some form of autism who was able to take a helicopter ride above a city and then accurately draw everything he saw on a huge sheet of paper. That was my inspiration for giving Lemongrab photographic memory.
Fantastic episode! All of the characters were wonderfully written, and I especially loved Shelby here, especially toward the end.
My life requires more ppl doing desperate business
