Did a version of an X-Factor cover for the Covered blog. Thought I would do one from the time period where I was collecting superhero comics (early 90’s); the era of Jim Lee, Rob Liefeld, and Todd McFarlane. I chose that cover because it had some nice purples and pinks in it, and I’ve been really into purple and pink for the past year or two.
Meanwhile I’m scrambling with some character designs that are coming up in future episodes of Forming. It’s interesting when doing final versions of this stuff, having a deadline that you need to stick to while pondering the issues of color and design. Also being satisfied with how dialog is presented in its final format has been challenging. Normally I read over my comics for months and make minor, efficient changes to really get at the core of what I’m trying to convey. I guess if I don’t like things in retrospect I can secretly change them and upload the modified jpeg to the server.

That was pretty much the worst time period for comic art, ever. Liefeld and McFarlane are well known for sucking. Your cover makes me hate them more, because if comics had looked like that, I feel like we’d all be speaking German now, but in a good way.
It reminds me of how we used to wish they would remake certain shitty movies and have every role played by Chris Elliot using computers and split screens: instant classic!
Yeah the thing is when I was 12, Rob Liefeld was the shit. I was so into his style and tried to mimic him. The late 80’s early 90’s really were my time for X-titles and such. I guess my most nostalgic period being the Marc Silvestri run on Uncanny X-Men. I just remember loving that stuff.
I’ve actually seen Liefeld quoted saying “I suck, I know. I’m sorry. I’m sorry for what I did.”
I didn’t read comics when I was 12 at all…I think my Dad gave me a few Thor comics, one of those supermarket back issue samplers that included a Chip & Dale. Oh…I did have a few issues of Secret War, which ripped of course. I would just read those few comics over and over.
