Hey Joe in my experience as a completely failed artist I would say the absolute best advice is to get away from the computer and hang out and get friendly with lots of people in real life. Honestly it is the only way anyone gets recognised and gets shows, it’s by hanging out and knowing people. Talent just does not cut it, quality of product just does not cut it – it really is achieved by the long slog of getting to know lots of people. I say this as a troll man who makes really odd and interesting art and the people who get shows are not necessarily without talent but they are much more social for sure! This cannot happen across the internet, you have to do it in a city, you have to hussle, and the bigger more culturally developed city the better. New York, L.A., London, Berlin, Chicago – that is where you need to be. Spend the time hanging out it is by far the best investment in an art career. I am not saying this to be cynical or anything, I just wish someone had explicitly told me this. It seems obvious but it is an absolute bottom line necessity. Don’t be fooled by the digital revolution (so to speak) this is how it really works and will always work, especially as far as showing work in galleries goes and in all IRL ways where you actually want to get paid.
I personally think that the path I am on now, while not ideal for myself let alone what I dreamt for myself, is still damn good. I am what I am… not fully at peace with everything but damn at peace with a lot of things I never thought I would be.

One other thing Mr. Moyns – I see there is not enough spooky transcendentalism going on here! Tut tut! Where is the Zoroastrianism and the MKUltra and tantric journeys and the gods being born out of the brains of their fathers like a ripe seed pod, eh? Mmmmmm? Wheressat shit at, huh? Let down.
