This Monday, Lemongrab returns to Adventure Time. I worked on this episode with Tom Herpich. It’s our second collaboration as board artists. I felt a lot of pressure as a writer to re-capture what clicked with Lemongrab in “Too Young”, while introducing fresh ideas about him. Sometimes I wonder if audiences want to re-live the moments that made a character popular. If you bring someone like LG back, do they just want to hear the same lines he spouted off in his first appearance? Is that why the Hangover 2 made so much money? Well anyway, if you catch the episode, I hope it delivers the goods!
EDIT: I Forgot to add that Steve Wolfhard cleaned up most of my drawings for this episode. Thanks Steve!

Lemongrab is the most interesting character in the show besides the Ice King, in my opinion. He’s complicated, weird, and has issues. Unresolved issues, apparently. I thought that Too Young was a bit of a waste of that character, (because we barely learned anything about him, and his backstory was entirely played for laughs), and I hope we’ll see something like “Sons of Mars” happen- I hope we see this wonderful character fleshed out, or expose a different, more serious side, how Magic Man did.
I trust that the episode will be wonderful, because you and Tom always board the best episodes. And when your powers combine again, I bet we’ll be in for an explosion of weirdness, comedy, and heartfelt emotion. This is what I’ve been waiting a year for.
Keep up the great work!
Wait, Steve Wolfhard of CatRackham works on Adventure Time?? With Meredith Gran working on the comic, AT is seriously bringin all my favorite artists together. Awesome!
That’s the man
Lemongrab? Not lemongrass? Weird. Anyway that episode was my favorite and he was a real cool character. When you brought magicman back he didn’t grate as overplayed I have confidence you can make lemongrab make us laugh again also.
This show has basically the best crew ever… it would seem. It shall be historic.
How much effort would it take to nab KC Green for an episode? AT already has all my other favorite people working on it!
p butt does not have an aura.
You got it pretty much perfect, man.
I felt the last episode with Ricardio was pretty poor, because it was literally just a rehash of what we’d seen before… seemed pretty pointless. Magic Man was also kind of like this.
But you got it just right… you kept the character consistent with the one we loved but you also did new things and took him on a story arc which actually meant something.
Really enjoyed the episode.
Lemongrab is a lot like someone in my life that i am close to. In fact he even looks like him… unfortunately the episode made me really sad since right now he’s not doing well at all.. dealing with a lot of the issues Lemongrab deals with as a character.. especially in this episode.. I am trying so hard to help this person and then watching this episode made me feel like some one out there gets it..
Unfortunately, I can’t just clone him, although i think this would probably do the trick and I have thought this before… many times.
Does Lemongrab have aspergers? because my friend does.. Where did the inspiration behind Lemongrab come from? Have you dealt with someone like this?
Lemongrab doesn’t have aspergers. I don’t know what exactly is going on with him. The two times I’ve written for his character I’ve tried to play him as weirdly sympathetic. He does a lot of things wrong, but you can see that he’s trying to do what makes sense to him. In the original outline, Lemongrab was just a huge asshole. I didn’t find that interesting at all. I wanted the viewer to feel sympathy for him, or at least conflicted about his motivations.
Also yeah there was a kid named Avi in my high school who had aspergers. We didn’t know till years later. I just thought he was a really eccentric hyper-nerd. He was really smart and yeah, he did stuff that confused me. But I always thought Avi was an alright dude.
I loved this episode, we get to see more of what Lemongrab’s deal is. Though he didnt really strike me as the pardoning type.
The lemon camel and lemonegasus are just endearing. Where the hell did those wierdos come from?
ehh I think Tom made up the camel and the lemonegasus
Jesse, I watched it and loved it. Being a die hard fan, I’ll tell you honestly.
You are a good creator and the episode was great!
Whatever your doing, .. keep doing it!
Thanks man!
i loved both lemongrab episodes. i could definitely tell there was a differnce between the two. i hope we get to see more lemongrab he is by far the bets character on the show. what can you tell me about the clone? if it were to disappear or cease to exist would lemon grab go back into crazy mode? also will there be more lemongrab in future seasons? i think 2 or more episodes per season would be great and im sure many fans would agree. unlike some other characters whom i hope never make an appearance again (cardio). sorry for the rambling but i have one more lemon-styled question, how did lemongrab get his sound sword?
There will definitely be more Lemongrab episodes. Unfortunately I can’t tell you when. I also can’t tell you about his clone. Also I have no idea how he got the sound sword. Originally, his sword was supposed to squirt lemon juice. Tom and I thought that was lame and we brainstormed the sound sword idea without thinking about where he got it from.
i really liked the background art in castle lemongrab. especially those trees with the exposed roots. just thought you should know
also i just wanted to know how powerful lemongrab is. is he powerful? he has this air of a nobleman with exceptional fencing skills
I just watched this episode with my little brother. You should know, we were yelling Lemongrab lines at each other all day. It was a blast. And, I LOVE Forming. Keep it up!
