Hey long time no blog! It’s a safe space for me to occasionally rant behind a paywall. So I want to rant about something:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ve tried very hard in the past decade to never voice my temporary hot takes, criticisms, or even constructive thoughts in the public sphere. From time to time, I’ve messed up and posted some dumb opinion in my instagram stories or on twitter and immediately regretted it, because once you step back from it, you realize the trap of committing to statements in the public forum. This first part of the trap is that every public statement you make is a commitment to self branding. You are not allowed to change your mind, and I change my mind like every day about almost everything. Among my friends I am known for hating something one week and then participating in it the next. It’s almost as if hating something gives me the drive to explore it and understand it better. So for me, expressing hot takes becomes extremely embarrassing within an hour of posting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second trap is: These stances will never be forgotten no matter how much you personally change over the course of your life and there are endless people out there who have made it their life’s mission to hold a picture of you in that one moment in time. It’s a sick, truly vile economy of call-out-clout that I don’t think will ever, EVER find a solution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was moved to write this because today as I was scrolling Instagram, I came across a video taken of a recent Nick Cave performance where he was standing on the crowd and screaming “Hand of God!” over and over. I’m not a huge Nick Cave fan but it was a powerful performance moment… actually it pumped me up seeing an older gent in a tight suit going full goth sermon off-stage. I made the mistake of scrolling comments and there was a bunch of these call-out demons saying not to bother with Nick Cave because he is a royalist who was at Prince Charles’ coronation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So this is the hell trap we’re in, where someone like gethinmoller gets to contribute to the conversation. And for every gethinmoller you manage to defend yourself against, there are millions waiting in the wing to learn about you and find a problem with you. On top of that, the reality is that there is<\/strong> <\/em>something that sucks about you (and me) and everyone on the planet. Everyone has something about them that is a problem. So everyone is vulnerable. For this reason we have to present ourselves in public with impenetrable armor for every possible scenario. Either that or try to fly under the radar and never express a thought or be seen in the wrong context, hanging out with someone who some rando has a problem with, because randos have collective value equal to a wise mythological king now. So we live in a world where we are constantly monitored by and accountable to the equivalent of an all seeing parent with BPD. It’s fucking insane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you learn the art of dunking on people and are persistent enough, it is possible to be elevated in society now. The dunking economy is a big money business that runs a complete spectrum from Ben Shapiro to Hasan Piker sitting at the top… and then just an endless sea of losers who wish they could do the same shit. Have you ever had a friend who shits on every idea you ever had? Like you are sitting around and say something like, “I think I wanna try to run a marathon this year,” and they proceed to tell you that you never exercise and you will never do it. These friends want you to stay small, limited in scope and fail in order for them to feel better about themselves. That’s those people. Being a complex, evolving person is inconvenient to these people’s clout economy. It’s seriously mentally-ill shit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
