<\/p>\nWhen some art peers\/friend\/acquaintances started posting their experiments with the Dall-E AI art generator, fear penetrated deep into my insides. I’d been living with a constant sense of low humming alienation and dread for the past two years for many, many reasons. Now it seemed that dread was manifesting in my most sacred garden; the place where I prove my right to exist, uh which is being an artist. <\/p>\n
A buddy of mine was posting some vis-dev ideas he had about desert dwelling apocalypse duck communities using Dall-E. Within an hour he had the beginning ideas of stuff that would have taken him weeks to accomplish. In my mind I was like, “Buddy you just betrayed your humanity,” but I just waited. A little later on I saw a comic publisher that I like, promoting their first Midjourney art generated comic book. And then not too much later, an animation director I know posting some wild hybrid 70’s sci-fi book illustrator looking environments. <\/p>\n

I started getting pretty triggered and posted some questions on their Instagrams. Futurist minded folk gave their devil’s advocate positions. I realized pretty quickly that it was too late to do anything so I stopped commenting. Instead I established a mental space for myself to make future plans in case my career got wiped out in 10 years. Still, seeing people reacting positively to their new-found artistic skill swiping triggered me enough that I would ask friends at parties about it. We all theorized about the potential end of the human art industry etc… I was dooming pretty hard. How horrifying and apocalyptic it could get is pretty endless if you follow some easy lines of thought… especially when you have completely self indulgent, compassionless alien beings at the top of AI development teams (see time stamped video below). <\/p>\n
