I had to go two pages for this one. Too much to go over to be contained. The Moon is the card that took me the longest to get a handle on due to its complex and provocative imagery.<\/p>\n

THE MOON XVIII<\/p>\n

A psychological border between earth and water manifests (conscious and subconscious), and two man-made towers emerge on either side of the previously wild, grassy landscape. The pool\u2019s edge represent the constraints of the rational mind. In the reflected, indirect light (Moon looking sideways), the raw and golden contents of the subconscious are revealed. This card feels closest to representing a Jungian dream scenario. There\u2019s no way to easily summarize the symbolism except to list what\u2019s there and ask the reader to develop their own relationship with the card. But I will try:<\/p>\n

From the deep, an idea in the form of a shellfish rises to the surface. There was an old belief that shellfish grew as the moon waxed. Whether the shellfish will emerge from the waters and evolve into a conscious being is unanswered here. Whether the shellfish brings a boon or a nightmare is also in question. The dogs and the towers seem to correlate. The masculine tower of flesh is locked up and its corresponding canine looks ragged and fearful. The femine tower of spirit is open for business and its corresponding dog looks playful and trusting. Between them their colors mix into an expression of intuitive wisdom (purple).\u00a0 Thus the Moon\u2019s face is calm and contemplative.<\/p>\n

Perhaps her expression resembles a detached compassion as she observes the chaotic communication within the human psyche. All things below seem magnetized toward her.\u00a0 The droplets are most definitely floating up and not down like rain as described in most Tarot literature. Could this mean the Moon is absorbing the subconscious nightmares of our world or evaporating them with her soft rays? Her serene expression (maybe slightly melancholy?) seems undisturbed by the nightmare-ish action occurring below,\u00a0 as Man\u2019s self constructed denial (right tower) or willingness to embrace his freaky shit (left tower in regards to the emerging shellfish) plays out.<\/p>\n

Whether the shellfish is a bearer of a comforting or difficult idea is perhaps based on the state of the querent\u2019s waking life. From a roughly Jungian point of view, dreams are an expression of compensation toward the material world. Without integration of the conscious and unconscious, the psyche will never find peace… which is why I wake up screaming from my dreams sometimes. In the meantime:<\/p>\n
