I had my pitch meeting at Netflix for Smuggle Brothers 2.0. I think it went uhhh okay? I kinda went in there with this idea that I was just gonna talk about how I’ve been feeling about art and stories lately and then briefly explain my idea with some drawings. I didn’t want to pitch a bible or talk about the characters too much because I’m trying to keep my telephone line to inspiration unscrambled if that makes sense. I think they kinda understood what I meant by that. Basically I just said it was about a world where no one can die and these two brothers help smuggle people’s souls into the afterlife. I mentioned some weird other characters like Jesus 2 who sprays immortal sperm into the universe. I talked about the panic attacks I’ve been having for about two years in regards to dying and my place in the universe, and that being the reason why I wanted to tell this story. I can’t think of any reason why I would want to tell a different story other than one that revolves around this subject matter. If Forming is my thoughts on creation, relationships and enlightenment, then this would potentially be my thoughts on dying. It makes sense to me to work on these ideas next. Although Forming definitely deals with death, it treats death in this impermanent way, and the rules are intentionally unclear. This would be different from that.<\/p>\n
Anyway the two execs were as nice and flattering as they could be. I have no idea what they really thought of what I was saying. I have a difficult time with authority and gate keepers, and I often assume they don’t understand how I think. It’s an insecurity I’ve had since I was pretty young. In my private bubble I’m supremely confident, but outside of that I can be pretty easily discouraged from believing that these types might be into what I do. Eh anyway, it never hurts to try to get someone to give me money and resources to make something. However, if this plan falls through, I plan on making it anyway.
