All the flow and signs in my life keep pointing me away from the big cartoon studios, and toward the idea of animating a short with a small crew. Today I received an email from Disney saying they weren’t interested in Smuggle Brothers. They also rejected my earlier pilot about the guy who falls from an upside down pyramid in space. <\/p>\n
Later this month I have a pitch meeting with Nickelodeon about Smuggle Brothers, and even though I am friends with the head of development there, I have the sneaking suspicion they won’t be into it. I could be wrong however, we’ll see. <\/p>\n
Also I’m patiently waiting to hear back from Starburns Industries about either developing something or doing a co-production with Frederator on Manly. But who knows if I’ll hear from them. <\/p>\n
Then there’s the long shot chance that Frederator will come into a big sum of money to fund Manly themselves. They’ve surprised us before. <\/p>\n
Meanwhile I’m sort of dying to just make a thing where I don’t have to consult and pitch with anyone. I’m getting tired of asking permission to animate my story ideas. So I’m giving it until the end of this month to start work on making a short for fun and freedom. I have an idea for it. I want to base it loosely on my speculations about the life of Jack Parsons and his attempt to conceive a child through magick and his relationship with the artist Cameron<\/a>. <\/p>\n
