A.E. Waite makes a case against the legitimacy of the ROTA diagram. I didn’t include it in my notes because he himself uses it in his card image! Again, what a weird asshole! He also makes an interesting case against the Sphinx standing on the platform. I will think this over. I believe some of the overly esoteric symbolism in his and other’s versions reduces the immediacy of understanding the imagery. My card will attempt to achieve more universal understanding, although I am tempted to employ Kabalic cosmology in the layers of the wheel, and the clever ROTA anagram is extremely difficult to resist! “The Wheel of Tarot speaks the Law of Hathor (love)!”<\/p>\n I’m really enjoying delving deeper into this card. The wheel image has so much overlap with non-western spiritual philosophy – most notably with Buddhism and to my delight, the Hindu system of Gunas which I was first exposed to two years-ish ago when I read the Bhagavad Gita. I don’t know where AE Waite, PFC and Hall got the idea that the Buddhist Wheel of Life was divided by 8 spokes, but it’s clearly 6, which is reflected in the Marseille.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n
