The primary reason for Waite’s change was to line up the major trumps with the order of the zodiac: connecting Strength, and the image of the lion, with Leo, and Justice with the scales of Libra. AND THEN forcing that to fit, I think with Waite’s layouts, correlations between Strength and the Magician, as well as Justice with the Emperor. ALSO with the Golden Dawn’s Hebrew alphabet attributions which are dubious at best. I don’t know if I’m using the word “attributions” correctly. It’s 3AM. <\/p>\n

I spent a good chunk of the day reading as much as I could about why these cards should be switched or why not. It’s driving me nuts that at one point I thought I’d read a really elegant passage from Jodorowsky explaining why not, but I can’t find it for the life of me. Justifications for switching them on the other hand are extremely murky and largely based on “it feeling right”: emphasizing certain correlations while ignoring others. <\/p>\n

Ultimately I don’t think it really matters. Both orders create a story that make sense in the journey of the Fool. If you have some insight about this let me know in the comments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
