I was in a Tarot workshop a few years ago and the teacher was observing that the papal and royal characters were sort of outmoded images… I forget what she was getting at. <\/p>\n

It seems like now more than ever, the Pope has re-surged as an important political figure in our infotainment consciousness. Maybe it’s just because this year he did a tour and everybody lost their shit, and some Left leaning pundits were like “This Pope’s not so bad! He’s sort of interesting!” because he believes in climate change etc… <\/p>\n

Anyway “Heirophant” be damned. Infotainment or not, the Pope is still relevant and has recognizable meaning to us moderns, positive or negative. <\/p>\n

Here are my notes. I just got the Paul Foster Case book, as recommended by one of my readers. It’s a super info-packed book that brings incredible illumination to the intentions, success and failures of the Rider\/Waite\/Smith deck. <\/p>\n

The Crowley bits this time are so far outside the box – a lot of it ends up being pretty unhelpful. But there are some connections to Paul Foster Case and Waite’s observations. It’s just that he’s throwing these terms and names around without giving context to them. <\/p>\n

Crowley’s blossoming rose diagram behind the Pope’s head, extending into the geometry surrounding body does closely evoke PFC’s “Key of the Cosmos and Numbers”<\/p>\n

But I’m uncertain why Crowley would be like “Yeah let’s throw the whole kit and caboodle in the Heirophant card.” <\/p>\n

I wasn’t really excited to work on this one, but I think I’ve dug up enough interesting nuggets to visually chew on…<\/p>\n
