The third entity could be interpreted as Gnosis or spiritual insight, based on the values found in both the material and non-material world. This links up well with how I’ve been feeling in the past several years about acknowledging the value of material existence, and not just pursuing/idealizing inner mystical experience.

Here’s my original design concept for the Boaz pillar that I made a few months ago I think. I remember having the revelation about it, but I can’t recall the idea. I can sort of guess about it and find a rationalization, but nothing as sharp and clear as when I first imagined it. Regardless, it was important and vital enough to me at the time, that I will respect my past self and keep it.

Another detail that’s sort of fucking me up is the placement of the pillars on Left and Right. Left and Right to who? The reader or the Popess? In all my research the themes line up and indicate Boaz on the Left and Jachin on the Right. However in a google search this shit is not consistent and images pop up up all over that place Jachin on the Left and Boaz on the Right (as shown in the masonic image at the top).

A.E. Waite, the blowhard and nitpicker that he was, places Boaz and Jachin in what seems to be the correct order of Boaz to the Left and Jachin to the Right.

Here’s another image with Jachin on the Left instead of Right.

Does anyone have insight into this inconsistency? Please let me know if you have thoughts on this.

UPDATE:

So I did some more research and found this paragraph from William Larson on a Freemason website:

Furthermore, there has been a good deal of speculation among Masonic scholars as to whether the designation of the pillars as “right” and “left” is from a viewpoint of a person entering or leaving the Temple. On one basis, the two pillars must be assumed as they would be first viewed when entering the temple from the outside. A worshiper leaving the Temple, and his view as to their placement of Boaz and Jachin would be unrealistic, for before he could leave, he must have first entered. Many writers, of Masonic papers, have contested this question, but Josephus clarifies the situation sufficiently well when he writes, “The one of these pillars he set up at the entrance of the porch on the left hand and called it Boaz.” The word entrance, should leave no question in speculating which way these pillars were to be viewed. A person can only enter the Temple from the outside, when leaving he would be departing or exiting to the outside.

Apparently there was some debate as to the placement of the pillars within the Masonic community over the years. This paragraph satisfies me enough with my placement.

I got hung up on the implication, embrace and subversion of the idea of duality, illustrated by the pillars that stood at the gate of Solomon’s Temple, Boaz and Jachin.
