\"\"<\/a>Welcome to The Temple<\/strong> and thanks for supporting this long term project. I am going pretty deep into developing ideas for these cards. I’ve been investigating the Marseille Tarot deck for about 4 years, trying to get a deeper understanding and relationship with it. I think that by\u00a0 boning up on my research and figuring out my interpretation, I’ll be able to produce a super personal deck that’ll create an improved fluency to my readings.<\/p>\n

As I organize my research, I will take you with me for each step. Hopefully this’ll give you some insight into the cards as well.<\/p>\n

I had done some previous test run paintings of the Hermit, the Tower and the Devil but I found that I was hewing too close to Jodorowsky’s version of the Marseille. I want these paintings to be totally unique looking and specific to my understanding. A big portion of my understanding comes from Jodorowsky, but I want to get into understanding how A.E. Waite and Crowley approached and personalized their images. I will definitely be honoring some aspects of the Marseille color system, and symbols, but attempting to bring those symbols into a more immediate and intuitive image for my readings. This will get more challenging as I get into the Minor Arcana. For now, I’m going to start with the Majors, and the controversial unnumbered Fool card.<\/p>\n

There are several different configurations for The Fool’s placement. But for me he seems to comfortably sit at the beginning, moving from Left to Right through the Majors and coming out at the end of The World only to start his journey again. I like equating him with an abstract idea of the number Zero and the unawareness of Ain Soph above the Sephiroth Tree – the symbolic graph of the active emanation of God. But only in the loosest way possible. I won’t be directly associating my deck with the Hebrew alphabet, or a strict placement on the Sephiroth. This shit gets way murky and contradictory the deeper you get into it, and depending on what authors you consult.<\/p>\n

\nNot to mention the unlikeliness that some card making dudes in Europe in the 1300’s were studying esoteric Jewish mysticism. Maybe<\/em> they were, but they didn’t have to for these images to accidentally line up with those meanings. The images are flexible and speak to a deep and common spiritual imagination. They somehow inhabit a truth that runs through a myriad of ancient belief systems. The struggle for meaning will reveal a common meaning at the most stripped down level. So the logistics of correlations between the cards and the Hebrew alphabet are not so important to me. If it works for you, then it works. But I’d rather leave that in the hands of the reader.<\/p>\n
